Models and Citizens

Andrew Sweet

Andrew Sweet examines the value of humanity in the emotional and action-packed dystopian thriller Models and Citizens!  As Earth’s climate turns sour, people resort to cloning to create Models, genetically modified people designed to be a disposable work force.  When one of these clones is targeted by a hate group, it’s up to Ordell to get her safely to Canada.  Sweet builds a believable world with palpable danger and characters you fear and root for!  I was very pleasantly reminded of Detroit Become Human, especially with the novel’s heart wrapped around that debate of what makes us human.  If you love dystopian fiction with great moral depth and tense sequences, definitely come journey across the United States with Models and Citizens!

The Wizard and the Warrior King

Joel Newlon

Joel Newlon thrusts us back into the exciting and mysterious fantasy realm of Vestmor with The Wizard and the Warrior King!  An army has come seemingly out of nowhere to threaten the people of Vestmor, leaving it to a wizard, a young would-be king, and a princess of fate to journey to stop it.  I loved The Craftsman and the Wizard, so getting to return to this world at a very different time and see how many characters came to be was an absolute delight!  Of course, being a prequel doesn’t bar this adventure from having its own surprises.  The journey was filled with plenty of ‘aha’ moments that really add depth to the original novel.  Couple this with all the great hack and slash adventure with monsters and necromancers, and The Wizard and the Warrior King becomes a blast for any old Dungeons and Dragons nerd like myself!

The Lovely and Dangerous Launch of Lucy Cavanagh

Stacy Peterson

Stacy Peterson brings us a well-wrapped and thrilling Western romance with The Lovely and Dangerous Launch of Lucy Cavanagh!  In an effort to discover who she really is, Lucy Cavanagh leaves the comforts of 1867 New York to head for San Francisco.  When her stagecoach is attacked, Lucy must rely on outlaw Will Shanks to help her navigate the Wild West.  The two end up in Valley City where they must impersonate a young couple as Lucy tries to figure out why Will became a wanted man.  There’s a lot going on in this one, but Peterson masterfully integrates all the elements into one deep story that’s both mystery, adventure, and heartfelt romance.  It was fun unpacking both characters’ hidden backstories, and the town and denizens of Valley City really felt alive, but ultimately it was the brewing romance that really drew me in!  Whether you’re a fan of romance, intrigue, or Westerns, definitely hop on the wagon to adventure with Lucy Cavanagh!
