The Single-handed Sailing Business

This book idea came from a phone call I received from a person on Long Island, NY. They asked, “How did you start your business?”. For days after that initial call, I started thinking about how did I start. How was I able to keep it going for so long. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “about 20% of U.S. small businesses fail within the first year. By the end of their fifth year, roughly 50% have faltered.” Given that I have been able to keep this business going for over ten years, I felt it would be a good idea to share my approach and learning for others.
I have divided the book into three parts. Part 1 covers the time before opening my business and includes much of the work necessary to start a business. It consists of my thought process, which led me to a sailing business that I ran by myself. Part 2 covers the running of the company and the discoveries I encountered along the way, and finally, Part 3 includes the process of closing the business. The closing was a difficult decision, but I felt it was time to put it to rest and allow me to take a new direction in my life. I genuinely hope you will find this book informative and engaging as I take you on my journey to fulfill a dream.
